A Rare Event: A (Lady) Friend from High School Finds Me
I have little or no libido these days so I feel no shame talking about old "flames." Linda, I'll call her, wrote me last week starting off with: "I wonder where the wind blew you." She has no idea how heavy I am right now and what kind of wind would be required to move me in any regard.
So, we exchanged a few emails on Facebook while she was on vacation and I was doing my best to get my new business off the ground in the worst economy since 1929. Hello.

It was kinda weird telling her about my life -- how do I wrap up almost 40 years! in a short message? Well, the good news is that I could tell her how lucky I am. What a wonderful marriage I'm in and the loving wife of mine that thinks she got lucky, too.
Did I tell her how I like to drift off while watching all the little birds in my backyard? No, but I could talk about being a dad and the motivation it gave me to be a better man, a better day. Reminds me of the scene in "As Good As It Gets" where Nicholson pays his soon-to-be girlfriend, played by Helen Hunt, a compliment. "You make me wanna be a better man." Pretty sweet. And, for me, it's true: my wife makes me feel, at times, like I wanna be a better man.
So, if this is what meeting old friends from high school does for me, that's wonderful. That's right: wonderful.
