Knoxville, Tennessee: Bubba Capital?

A Visit to an Old Friend Brings New Awareness?

My friend Nan, living in Knoxville, is bringing a new model for females to the South.  Nan knows how and doesn't mind saying "no."  Especially, to those in positions of power.  Lots of (most?) women down here are "pleasers" so they don't know what to do with her.

Say "yes" to go along.  Get along.  I've never been too good at that.  Neither has Nan; one of the things that unites us, gives us common ground.

I'm visiting this weekend and I'm enjoying myself but I'm getting some insights into another of the many cultures that inhabits the U.S.  They also tell her that she's not supposed to have lunch with any man who's not her husband.  What will they say when they find out she had a male friend visiting for the weekend?

For me, the "no" thing is partly motivated by a desire to be somewhat assertive or, perhaps, to even be defiant.  Or, smart.  Yeah, I think I know I'm smart and, therefore, my opinion, my view should matter.

So, I should rephrase, I'm not as interested in saying "no" as I am in asking questions.  Like "why?".
